Addiction Therapy Services in Maryland

Every individual who enters our care will receive an individualized treatment plan, based in our holistic, multidisciplinary approach towards treatment. Our treatment plan is made up of effective, evidence-based therapeutic modalities administered to each individual based around their needs and strengths as they build towards long term recovery. Much of the treatment engages group therapy, and throughout recovery you will be surrounded with individuals with similar problems, facing the same challenges, and seeking the same opportunities for change. It is during recovery where you will be provided with not only the tools and skills to overcome your addiction, but the knowledge and experience of how and when to uses these tools on your way to long term recovery.

Expressive Therapy

Expressive Therapy is guided by your therapists as part of your individualized treatment plan. Often groups will get the opportunity to explore the creative arts.

These expressive therapies help you take a real look at your addiction in a way that is not verbal. Alongside the more traditional group therapies, we will help you engage with the creative arts in a manner designed to address your personal goals and needs.

Group Therapy

At Awakenings, we strongly believe that group therapy is the foundation of recovery. In group therapy, guided by our experienced and educated clinical staff, you will build an immediate community of people with the same goal as you, recovery. You will learn how to open up to those around you, and how to better communicate your thoughts and needs.

At every step of treatment, you can rely on those around as resources to create a strategy for success, learning and developing coping skills and strategies that will guide your long term recovery.

Trauma Focused

Addiction and trauma can often times be intertwined. If you have experienced trauma, part of your therapeutic plan will address traumas head-on. We believe it is imperative to begin dealing with them and spur recovery. Your individualized therapeutic plan will focus on addressing any trauma in your past, and our trained and experienced staff will modify and adapt your program to directly fit your needs.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a therapeutic modality that encourages the patient to ask themselves, “How can I make a positive change?” The therapy focuses on your strengths and motivations to start making positive changes and build these skills on their way to recovery.

Motivational interviewing is based in positive affirmation. Living in the cycle of addiction can leave you feeling hopeless, depressed, and lacking self-esteem. Taking small steps towards, with the support of our team and your group, is a first step towards regaining control of your life.

Case Management

The cycle of addiction can damage many aspects of your life; you might face legal or professional issues stemming from it. Your case manager will be your advocate and help guide you towards positive change. Your case manager is equipped with a wealth of knowledge to help you tackle these legal and professional issues.

Facing issues like bad credit or dealing with your criminal record can be daunting, but we are here to help.

Part of recovery is returning to a much less chaotic way of life, during treatment you will have the opportunity to start working towards a more normal life. We encourage you to begin working, return to school, consider volunteering or start training for your next opportunity.

Family Therapy

Addiction is a family disease.

We are committed to working with every client and their loved ones to find the healthiest strategies for healing, setting boundaries and dealing with family issues head-on.

Upon starting treatment level our staff will begin reaching out to loved ones if appropriate. Our staff will assess your family situation, your strengths and needs, and develop a plan for you.

We are dedicated to working with you and your loved ones, emphasizing psycho-education, examining codependency and learning successful strategies to build a foundation for success.

Co-occurring Diagnosis

Co-occurring substance abuse issues and severe mental health disorders play a significant factor in determining your treatment plan. If you need dual-diagnosis care, your treatment plan will be built around your mental health needs.

Severe mental health disorders can be debilitating; it is our priority to give you access to the care you need. During your time at Awakenings, you will have access to psychiatric care as well as the proper medications to keep you well.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a common and well known tool used in addiction treatment. In the cycle of addiction, you brain’s reward circuits stop working properly as you continue using unhealthy coping methods like drugs or alcohol to deal with life. The focus of CBT is to relearn healthy coping skills to build a healthy reward system in the brain. This is a necessary tool to help teach you how to cope with the stresses of life.

CBT sessions focus on active goals and strategies, and are designed around your specific needs. We focus on providing structure and emphasizing direct plans of action. The therapy is collaborative in nature, meaning our staff is there to work with you on your goals.

CBT is educational, focused on you learning effective, healthy and safe ways to identify and deal with stress and other triggers you may deal with in life. During your time at Awakenings, these therapies will help you get used to dealing with stress in a positive manner, without resorting to unhealthy habits.

Your therapy program will help you build the skills and experience you will need once you exit treatment, including strategies to prevent a relapse after treatment. The therapeutic techniques you learn and the community you build will be your strength.

As you make your way through treatment, we will focus on giving you a list of resources to use when confronting stress out in the world.

Your treatment program will address a healthy approach to long term success and help you decide the next steps in your treatment, after your time in our residential facility.
